New render cracking
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.45 PM
I've recently (last month) had the front of my house rendered. Lots of little cracks have appeared all over it. They did a scratch coat and then one smooth render coat. They advised that the little cracks appear if it dries a bit quicker than normal but my painter isn't happy! Is this normal or is this something to be alarmed about? Is my render just going to fall off? What does PAV mean and they have not used mesh.

it depends if the scratch coat was PAV well enough, if not when you put the top coat on smooth render it may dry out too quick it will cause it to have hairline cracks to appear. for now just keep a eye on it. if the cracks get any bigger when you may need to have it fixed.
sometime direct sunlight will make it dry too quickly and small hairline will appear.

Afternoon to you
It could possibly that the mix is to weak
Or that the scratch coat may not of had any water proofer in it
If it dried out to quick could also mean that the final coat was to thin

It definitely depends if they have used a mesh system with specialist render or mixed a sand and cement mix not quite right?
Hairline cracks will appear if not prepared properly
