Extending out the ground floor from a coal house

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.45 PM

I have a 1940's terraced house which has a single storey coal house, double brick which appears to have a cavity wall, but need to do some investigation. The roof is a concrete slab. The building extends out the back of the house about 4 meters. The building is on a concrete slab I think. I don't think there is much in the way of foundations, but again needs to be investigated. If the building has a cavity wall and some foundations, can I extend from this across the back of the house without tearing the building down? If its possible, then would it be possible to remove the slab roof and build up 3 courses of brick to bring the roof line above the lintels for the back windows. Thanks for any advice.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Unfortunately this building will not comply to todays regulations and will need to be taken down and new foundations installed to satisfy building control. Excavations will need to be inspected by the officer and taken down to load bearing strata before concrete is installed then you can build from there.

The above builders have answered correct regarding the coal shed yes it will have to come down and comply with building regs Thers no point in cutting corners it will cost you in the long run.
