For a temporary disconnection, eg to decorate behind the cooker, fit flooring etc, there is no need to use a gas safe fitter. There is nothing stopping you undoing at the bayonet which is self sealing and reconnecting a short time later.
To permanently remove the cooker or for long term disconnection then it needs to be capped off, eg the bayonet removing and replacing with a cap. This can only be done by a gas safe registered engineer

You are allowed to disconnect it at the bayonet temporarily, if permanent you need a gas safe engineer.

Hi, Yes you will require a gas safe engineer to carry out any works on gas. It is not worth the risk doing it yourself and could be more costly in the long run for you.
Hope this helps
