Ventilation requirements for domestic gas cooker
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.07 PM
i wish to install a replacement gas cooker but I am confused regarding ventilation requirements. My kitchen has a cubic capacity of approx 20 cubic meters and vents to a conservatory and then a further vent to the outside. My existing gas cooker has been in use for approx 23 years. Please advise me before I go mad.

As its not a new kitchen or extension it is not covered by new regulations. If you have an extractor with 100mm pipe that vents outside you are good.

As your kitchen is greater than 10 meters cubed, no vent is required by law but there has to be an openable window directly to outside.
If you have a cooker extraction system, that will do the job.

Above 20m2 only and opening window direct to outside is required

As your kitchen room size is above 10m2 with a window opening direct to outside then there is no need for ventilation.
Hope this helps.
