If its an actual company and a written contract, the tradesman simply cannot refuse either to refund or finish the job. This is why i recommend my customers to detail the work. in our contract we guarantee the quality of our work, which makes us oblige to finish the work stated in the contract.

To request a refund for unsatisfactory work from a tradesperson in the UK, you can follow these general steps: 1. Review the terms and conditions: Check any agreements, contracts, or terms and conditions you may have with the tradesperson. Look for information regarding refunds, warranties, or guarantees on the work provided. This will help you understand your rights and the options available to you. 2. Contact the tradesperson: Reach out to the tradesperson who performed the work and express your concerns. Explain why you are unhappy with the work done and provide any evidence you have, such as pictures, to support your claim. Request a refund or a resolution to the problem. 3. Document communication: Keep a record of all your interactions with the tradesperson. This includes dates, times, names, and summaries of your conversations. It's important to have this documentation as evidence in case you need to escalate the issue later. 4. Give them an opportunity to resolve the issue: If the tradesperson is willing to address your concerns, give them a reasonable chance to rectify the problem. This could involve arranging another visit to fix the issues or providing a solution that meets your expectations. 5. Seek a second opinion (optional): If you believe the tradesperson's work is subpar and they are unwilling to provide a satisfactory solution, you may consider seeking a second opinion from another qualified professional. Their evaluation can serve as additional evidence of the poor quality of work. 6. Escalate the issue: If the tradesperson refuses to address your concerns or provide a refund, you can escalate the matter further. Here are a few options: a. Consumer protection organizations: Contact consumer protection organizations in your area. They can provide guidance on your rights and may be able to intervene on your behalf. b. Trade associations: If the tradesperson is a member of a trade association, you can contact the association and file a complaint. They may have dispute resolution processes in place. c. Small Claims Court: As a last resort, you can consider taking legal action by filing a claim in the Small Claims Court. This option is usually more suitable for larger disputes, as there may be costs involved. It's important to note that the specific steps and options available to you may vary depending on the laws and regulations in your jurisdiction. Consulting with a legal professional or seeking advice from local consumer protection organizations can provide you with more accurate and relevant information based on your specific situation.
