Hello, I am removing a single mains socket and replacing it with a double socket in a different location in my garage. As originally connected the supply comes into a switched fused spur with neon. The fused spur has connections for L in, N in, L out and N out plus a couple of earths. The garage light was connected to L out and N out. The single socket was connected to L in and N in. So the light was switched but the socket wasn't. Ie the fused spur was also being used as a junction box.
Is this correct or acceptable use of the fused spur?

It sounds fine as long as it’s correct size cable and circuit breaker . If the circuit is a radial the protection should be by a 16/20 A mcb .If the circuit has been wired as a ring final in 2.5 mm2 cable the mcb can be 32A .The circuit should also be protected by a 30 mA RCD
Yes, this is acceptable if the switched fused spur is fused down to a 5amp fuse supplying the lighting.
The Socket does not need to be on the outgoing side as it is part of the same circuit as the switched fused spur, possibly on a ring final or radial circuit.
You should be contacting a qualified local electrician to carry out this work to confirm it is safe and correct.

The switched fused spur was wired correctly. Its not a junction box, its how the spur works. The spur was used as a light switch.
Yes this is correct, your garage lights need to be fused down as the cabling could not take the potential Amps from the circuit feeding your sockets which could be a 16A, 20A or 32A hence why going through a fused spur. There should be a 3A or 6A fuse in the spur giving the garage lights sufficient protection.
