Fencing

Do I own the fence if I paid for it

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.52 PM

The fence on our right was in total state of disrepair and neighbour not willing to do anything about it so we bought..paid for and erected a new fence. Neighbours boys are using it as a goal to play football. I have asked them not to do this but they say its their fence as its on left of their property. Are they correct?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, Not a nice situation. If you paid for it, it is not their fence, just their boundary. If they damage it, then you are entitled to have them repair or replace it. Unless it says otherwise in your property deeds, its more an agreement amongst neigbours who would erect fences and keep them in good condition. You might be best to grow, something spiky over it!

just because it's on the left does not mean it's there's. you should check your deeds to make sure for certain. if the fence is not yours, then maybe you could ask for half the money as a good gesture. many regards Keith

Hi, I 100% agree with the previous answers given, you’ve gone out your way to replace a fence and they are damaging it. It may be on “their side” but it is still your fence. Similar if your car was parked on “their side of the road” does not mean they own it.

Hi the fence rules years ago use to be left yours right there’s, but over the years people fix fencing that is broken or have a whole new fence, if you have done this (paid for the fence in between your house and there’s) then you have the rights too that fence, but I would most definitely check your deeds if you own the house as I’ve known it where all three fences on the deeds be the owner of the house, so always best too check deeds in this case, if there child breaks the fence your in your right too ask them too repair or replace because you paid for it, hope this helps Good luck A7 Premium Fences And Gates
