Benefits of foil/bubble insulation with celotex
Anonymous user 17/03/2024 - 2.30 PM
I am complete if my garage conversion and will be building a studwall to go across the garage door. Would there be much benefit in also using foil/bublewrap? I was thinking I would attach this to the door and then leave 20mm air gap as instructions say needed. Then build the studwall. Started thinking of this as I got some free ‘super foil’ insulation but it is the cheapest one they do with the lowest r value. My question really is whether you get benefit if you have used pir board in front of the foil. Thanks
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Ed,
PIR (celotex) is more than sufficient on its own but there would be no cons to using the foil insulation to just be careful on installation.
I recommended sticking this in areas that the celotex does not cover. As you are probably aware the lower the R rating the lower the less effective the resistance is to heat flow.
Ideally you want the same or very similar ratings on both the celotex and multilayer foil insulation.
If you decide to stick the foil direct to the celotex then just make sure there is no air bubbles between the board and foil.
Hope this helps 👍
