The Economy Seven Switch is working but the water is not heating up

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.50 PM

The bottom of my water tank is not heating the water overnight at all. The boost still works. I have had a plumber replace the element and the thermostat they have confirmed power is going to the unit. The economy 7 feed comes from a switch on the wall. The light on the economy seven switch comes on at night and stays on for the 7 hrs, but there is no hot water in the morning. I have recently had the hot water tank and element replaced as well as a new consumer unit. Not sure what else to replace or check. Thanks for advice

The chances are that something will probably have been overlooked or the new element is still faulty. Personally I would isolate the supply and check the circuit for continuity paying particular attention to the thermostat and safety limit cut out switch. Just because something is new doesn't mean you can discount it from being faulty, so still check the element also.

This sounds like a wiring fault to the immersion/element if the hot water cylinder has recently been replaced

Just because the light comes on doesn't always mean that the required 240v is being sent to the immersion element . Check cables for continuity Check thermostat for correct operation Check controller is actually putting out 240v

The immersion heater may be wired correctly, but the programmer may not be set to the correct start and finish times. It is this programmer that determines when the water is heated.
