Hanging a wall mounted seat on a plasterboard tiled wall

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.33 PM

Hello I want to hang a wall mounted seat on a tiled plasterboard wall. I can't seem to find any studs in that part of the wall. The seat can support weight of up to 150kg. Is it possible to get wall fixings to securely attach the seat to a plasterboard wall and take the weight of a 15st adult? Does the tile being on the wall help to make the plasterboard more secure?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

No please don't, it won't support it. Best open up the wall, support the area with timber and an 18/32mm ply ,make sure timber frame is in line to screw into, that support the entire weight much better.

Absolutely not, please avoid do this. As it's heavy need to make a frame inside wall and timber should be joint to the ceiling and floor juices also make sure timbers frame should be every 40cm not too much space between the timbers.

Tile and plasterboard are not sufficient for fixing onto for this. It requires a bogging in the wall behind the plaster board the only way around this is to cut open the wall and fit one. It my be easier if it’s accessible from the other side then at least you can save your tiles.
