Windows & Door fitting

Glazing beads & glazed units

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 3.01 PM

Hi just had 16 new oak foiled upvc windows fitted, over half have a 1-2mm mitre gap in the glazing bead. The underneath white upvc area is on show and I have steps seen from above and below ( like when the joint does not line up) I've been told it's an expansion gap but I know this is not right. Should upvc glazing beads have any size expansion gap or none at all if cut precisely by the manufacturer? Also all our glazed units have a bow to one side of the bottom warm edge spacer bar ( update: we have been told its a flexi warm edge spacer bar) a few are bowed inwards/outwards on the side spacers bar. We also have the desiccant pellets on view which is not aesthetically pleasing. (update been told these could be shearings from the flexi bar) Is this exceptable and what are the guidelines regarding spacer bars? How do we get an impartial independent decision on this.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

There shouldn't be any expansion gaps on glazing beads. In my opinion they are either badly manufactured or the glazier/fitter has got the beads mixed up on site (top should be bottom or left should be right for example) new dgunits shouldn't have anything inside and spacer bars shouldn't be straight and parallel. This is why you should only use a fensa insurance backed fitter. Get in touch with them.

I have to say I agree with the other 2 answers, also check to see if the window is straight and not over tight as sometime this can flex the beads and show a gap.
