Fencing

Erecting a new fence a long side of my neighbours

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 3.01 PM

I live in a council house, as do my neighbours. They erected a fence within their boundary (4ft) I would like to erect a 6ft fence in my boundary. I do not get on with my neighbours hence wanting the new fence. I’ve read online that I am able to do this but there must be an inch and half between theirs and mine. I just wanted to clarify this is the case.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi "fed up" Yes you can build the fence as you state. In theory, as long as you are behind your boundary line (wherever that is deemed to be), then you are within your rights. However, please bear in mind that any concrete footings, or even the caps of the fence posts, must not transition over this boundary line. Therefore, to ensure complicity, install your fence a sensible measurement from the boundary line. Thanks Mike Burcham Services

Hi there You can use your boundary to full capacity. First of all you will know what sort of neighbourghs you have & if there the sort who will go out there way to make problems then just explain to the trade you hire your predicament. At the same time pinpoint the boundary & do not come in just to save the hassle because if they are hell bent on that they will find a problem in any solution you take. Allways try & talk to them explain where you think the boundary is & hopefully both parties agree on the line.
