Poor drainage of soil beneath lawn
Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 3.01 PM
I bought a new house and paid a lot of money for the developer to put down turf for the rear lawn. The turf was laid directly on top of the existing soil (full of stones and rubble) with no top dressing or top soil. Now, one year later, the lawn is wet with muddy patches and extensive holes in the grass. Two questions: on the legal front, how responsible is the developer for putting this right? And, what can be done to improve the drainage?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Depends on how long you have owned the house. If it's under one year or the developer is still working in the location then you have a chance to get them to sort the issue.
Before looking or going down the legal route have you called them and asked them to have a look at the issue.. This is the first thing you need to do and keep a little record of when you have called, who you have spoken with etc.
Also get some evidence like photos etc to have at hand..
Good Luck!

Good morning.
The developers are 100% responsible for rectifying your problem.
A lot of the materials left in the soil will hold moisture so they will need to install a decent drainage system and lay good top soil.
