Varnish over satin on wood

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.07 PM

I recently painted interior doors. Doors were well sanded, primed and painted with wood paint (valspar coloured matched in b&q) but there’s some chips in the paint already, right down to the wood. Is there something I can paint over this (after touching up) to make it more durable? Looking in b&q all I can see is dulux diamon glaze satin varnish. Would this be suitable to go over paint? Whatever I use needs to be clear because the doors are green. Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I personally am not a fan of valspar paint .I don’t recommend it and prefer not to use it . In your situation Dulux diamond satin clear is a really good product .if you are not going to completely re- do the door this is probably the next best thing

Hi Generally speaking, yes. You can apply varnish over a paint. It might tint the colour slightly though. If you want to achieve very resistant and shiny surface, apply few coats of varnish and sand each down little bit. SHAPESMAKERS LTD
