red bricks for a front garden wall
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.07 PM
Hi. What kind of red bricks are typically used to build a typical front garden wall with columns on the ends (and iron railing) in London? Are engineering red bricks suitable or are there other types of red bricks that are used? Thanks.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You should be able to use any red brick in my personal opinion a red stock would go nice with black railings and black mortar
But I would probably say you want to match to wall to the front of your house so it ties in nicely together
Most builders merchants have booklets you can pick up with different brick types or on their websites

You would usually only use red engineering bricks for the footings of the wall until you are about 2 courses above ground and also for any kind of feature course such as brick on edge/soldiers across the top of the wall as they have a better resistanceto water penetration. Other than that any red brick that you are happy with the look off should be fine as mentioned above.
