Replacing faulty macerator toilet 'motor'

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.50 PM

Hi. In one of my rental properties the macerator toilet is faulty. I'm told that when it is flushed, the motor kicks is, as normal, but stays on and doesn't automatically turn off after a while as it normally would do. The only way the motor is stopped at the moment is that it is swtched off at the plug socket. Logically the motor part needs replacing, and maybe more. There is no noticable make. A plumber has looked at it as I was hoping I could maybe fit a 'normal flushing toilet' instead, but the gravity & pipework is not suitable. How can I go about knowing what part/s need replacing? Where would you recommend I go for replacements. I think the basin waste is fed through this too. Many thanks Clare

replacing bits on these can work out dearer than replacing the whole unit, new pump for saniflow around £190 plus labour to fit it, if not after a saniflow you can buy another make whole unit £150 plus labour to fit it.

Hi Clare, As mentioned by previous comment it’s easier to replace the Macorater than replacing parts. By replacing parts and paying a plumber to replace it will be more efficient to replace the unit. Regarding replacing with a normal toilet gravity waste fall. There’s a reason the Macorater was installed in the first place. Ie the main stack is to far from the toilet.

Only way is a full replacement as these are messy things to deal with, and need a really good clean before working on.plus it's not worth spending time and money on.as the labour costs will work out costly.just replace the whole thing.shouldnt take a decent plumber more than 2hours maximum to change and fit a New unit.

I usually just change the unit as I've found in the past replacing parts then a few month later something else goes wrong. A new unit will have a 12 month garentee. More cost effective to change the unit
