Rattling sound after new radiator

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.50 PM

Had a new radiator fitted 16th Feb (nearly two months ago) smaller than the one there before. The sound is like a loud hollow rattling/ticking noise. Can be heard from the room above just as loud. Think it mainly happens when the washer/dryer or heating is on but I’m sure I’ve heard it without any of these. The noise goes on and off but is consistent through the evening. All pipe work seems in tact/not loose. It’s not the radiator itself making the noise and the boiler pressure is fine. Any ideas? Thank you!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Most likely cause is the expansion fittings supplied with radiator not been fitted

it may be the expansion clips not fitted,(these are small plastic clips fitted into brackets ) but could also be debri caught up in radiator, or expansion noise as the radiator is now to small for the room and is constantly hot to keep up with the heat requirements of the room.

Hi it’s more than likely it’s the pipe brackets underneath the floor boards just phone up the trade man who fitted them and they will put one on where’s needed same thing happened to me after I had new radiators fitted upstairs

Id check the pipework leading to the new radiator for any areas where it is tight to the surrounding building materials ie where pipework comes through a floor and laminate or floorboards are tight up next to the pipe, this can cause unwanted noise as the pipe expands and contracts. Ideally you want atleast a 1mm gap between the pipe and whatever material it is passing through.
