Kitchen hot water takes ages to get hot & takes ages to come back when using the cold on the mixer

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.33 PM

In our kitchen the hot water takes a long time to get hot, this is an inconvenience but understandable the first time as it’s the farthest tap from the heater. (Although no where else in the house has the same problem). However once hot, if I start using cold water on the mixer, it takes an age to get hot again once I go back to hot. The pressure is not equal, the cold comes out quickly (the kitchen is where the outside water comes into) and the hot takes a while to fill a sink etc. So I presume that when using the cold it is getting into the hot pipe and “pushing” the hot away so that when we mix back to hot it has to travel all the way back again. Is there a way to fix this? I’m presuming it must be the mixer at fault although I’ve had a couple mixers and the issue is the same.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

in a kitchen mixer the water does not and must not mix inside the body of the tap, if it does it it is not a kitchen mixer as it does not comply with your water boards by laws, get a qualified plumber to look at your problem.

It sounds like you have mains cold water and tank fed hot so you have unequal pressure going to the tap and the cold is crossing over which is not good. The mixer will need to be changed or if possible use individual taps

Depends on your system. If tank fed hot water, the cold potentially over powering the hot. Fit non return valve to the hot.
