My shed's roof has ponding at the front/bottom, does the whole roof need to be refelted?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.33 PM

A section of the roof on my garden shed where some felt flapped back exposed part of an OSB board which was eventually damaged by rain. I hired a roofer to come and replace the front row of OSB boards, including the ones on the ceiling inside the shed, refelt the entire roof, and replace the gutter. On the day of the job, the roofer ended up leaving out parts of the job. Prior to the job, I made sure everything was written down and confirmed in our exchanged messages. Nevertheless, I let him start working. He stripped off all of the old felt. Then went to pick up some materials which turned out to be poor-quality compared to what was originally used for the shed and mentioned in our exchanged messages. I pointed this out, and he agreed to return and replace them. I had to pay extra for all of this. During the job, I noticed him cutting off the wet section of the old damaged OSB board rather than unscrewing the whole board so it could be replaced with the new one. I brought this to his attention, and he agreed to do things properly. All of this got me wondering if I had made the right choice. From the start of the job, it was almost as if he was trying to cut corners, but stated he gave me a 5-year warranty and that he will come back and sort any problems. Anyway, the first time it rained after he completed the job I noticed a small pool of water near the front of the roof photo.mybuilder.com/2_thumb/32456320_847f834e95.jpg and a build up of water at the front edge of the roof photo.mybuilder.com/2_thumb/32456363_95b58f4917.png. He failed to turn up 3 times to fix the issue and it's been almost a month. I have given up and just want to pay someone else to fix the issue. It looks like maybe the OSB board was screwed down too tightly in one section of the roof. As for the line of water at the front of the roof, I have no idea what could be causing that. I will be looking for a new roofer next week. Do you think the whole roof (3m x 4m) will need to be refelted?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

It looks to me like there is no to little support under that section of roof based on your explanation and assuming the roof was fine before the repair the guy has used the wrong type of OSB or installed it incorrectly,I would also take a look at the support beams for the roof and ensure they are still straight and have not dipped which is a common thing to happen on sheds

Judging by the quality of the work in the photos i believe it would be better to strip off the felt and replace any damaged OSB board then re-felt the whole roof! This way you know it has been done properly and that it will withstand the warranty of the materials. Hole this helps.

Hi I can’t click on the link to see the pictures but just re felting the roof won’t solve the pooling issues you would have to fully re board I would leave the boards down and fit wooden tapers to make a fall to the gutter re board then re felt
