Plumbing

Two waste pipes in the small bathroom, going to the same outdoor pipe

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.33 PM

Just wondered if you could answer this question for me please, sink on one side of the small bathroom with original outlet pipe. This pipe was used for the old existing shower cubicle. Opposite shower replaced with new bath with its own outlet pipe, the plumber core drilled through 16" of stone to fit pipe it feeds to same out door pipe as sink ( hence now I have two outlet pipes) I've got wooden floor could the plumber have fed the bath pipe to the sink pipe, like it was done originally with the shower, and why did he not put the waste pipe from the sink under the floor board it's a white visible pipe on the surface (ugly will need to be boxed in)

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Lynda, Technically speaking there is no right or wrong way to do this but the main consideration would be the way in which the joists are running, which is also the main reason why you would run pipework above the floor). If the joists are not running parallel to the pipe, consideration has to be given as to whether the joist can be knotched and that is all dependant on the span and size of the joists vs how much you plan on taking out. The preferred method is often for the waste pipe for the shower/bath and basin to be seperate which also helps if there are any blockages in the future.
