Old lead pipe in the back yard

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.45 PM

I previously posted about a lead pipe that is in our backyard. Even though I have had a few replies they don't really solve the problem. Basically, the pipe comes from under a brick wall at the back of the yard and the pipe is constantly leaking. There is les than half a meter if the pipe showing and lord knows where the pipe comes from as our back yard leads into to the back garden of the another house. Our landlord came out and used a mallet to flatten the pipe to stop the water leak but it still keeps leaking. The pipe is obviously a disused pipe from times gone by.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The rough and ready answer would be a flexible pipe connector (has jubilee fasterners). Add a bead of outside grade silicone around the seal to the lead pipe for good measure. From that attached a short length of pipe material of your choice, with an end cap on the pipe. Any type of fitting will do. A bead of silicone on the extention will also help (guttering sealer would be good). The reason for using the flexy pipe connector is rubber, and as your landlord has bashed the pipe, he may have changed its shape. Even slightly will increase the chances of a leak. It won't look pretty or nice, but it will get the job done.

If the pipe is still round closer to the wall you Could use a push fit stop end depending on the diameter. They can be used even if there is water present to create a seal.

If it's old lead pipe, it will more than likely be imperial sized. Obtain the outer pipe diameter and purchase an appropriatly sized lead-loc/ stop-end compression fitting. As some others have mentioned attach to an undamaged section of the pipework.

Hi Your plumber can excavate the ground and then find the pipe and use the compression fitting to fixed leak. But Since lead above is not good for health, I will re -moved existing let Pipe and run new pipe work
