Why the bottom immersion heater on my economy7 hot water cylinder not heat
Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 3.01 PM
The bottom immmersion heater for my hot water cylinder seems to cut out over night. I have tried resetting which worked for 6 months but recently it cut out every other night. I called a plumber who said it will need replacing without investigating and has quoted £240. Is this right..?

it could be just the thermostat that is breaking down, if so an easy replacement,if it is the heater element then £240 is about right.

If the the water is heating up it could be a themostat problem. It needs further investigation.

The thermostat on the element is most likely faulty which would need replacing but not as expensive as the whole element and a lot easier to fit

It could potentially be the thermostat playing up, since it has progressivley got worse. These can be tested by either a plumber or an electrician. If this is the fault , then they are cheaper to replace than the whole element.
