Possible to save a cut off metal wood burner flue?

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 3.01 PM

We had a loft conversion done and the building company cut off the top of our metal flue (connected to a wood burning stove in the chimney) that was originally coming out of the roof, and built the rest of the loft. We now want to get this fixed. Is it possible to find the point they cut it off in the loft wall and extend with some new flue out of the roof, or would we need to remove the entire existing flue from the bottom 2 floors and have a brand new one put in from scratch? I'm aware we will need a certified tradesperson to carry this out, just trying to gauge the level of effort to do this. Thanks!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, if it’s a 316 or a 904 liner then you will need to replace the whole liner as a liner is meant to be a replacement flue and continuous from the stove to the exit with no joins if it is a twin wall flue then maybe you match could matching existing flue brand and redirect but this would be determined by how many bends are used on the twin wall liner. Hope this helps

Depending on what flue it is. Of it’s a 904 or 316 liner and you know the manufacturer they probably do a fitting that can join the liner together. The joint must be inspectable so the liner could be lifted and inspected though the register plate access hole. But to be honest the hassle it might cause you might just replace the whole thing.
