Creocote/creosolve

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 3.01 PM

Hello! Looking at staining a 2 year old fence. Just applied a treatment to rid the moss and whatever else sits on the surface. We want that new fence look and at looking at a creosote alternative. I have bought Creosolve which is just that but “safer” to use again than Creocote. It smells so bad. Does the smell from this product go eventually? Our concern is that the summer sun in a few months will stink the garden out (and the neighbours). If this does smell continually, any alternatives to achieving the new/“wet look” fence? We want the colour back and the grain to pop. Thanks, Josh.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

It's a very strong chemical mixture and will smell quite strongly for a few weeks however after that period the smell will reduce and you won't notice it. I do this to my own fence once every year and never have a issue after the forst couple of weeks. That and some sunshine on the wood and your fine. Thanks SPR Construction

The smell will go over time ,as the product dries out. There are are other products that don't smell bad ,such as fence paints but do not preserve the wood as well as crecote.

Best result will be to pressure wash the fence and the smell will go away once fully dry but would leave the fence to dry out after washing it ideally when you have a few decent hot days 😀
