Rotten wood/gaps in bay window
Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 3.01 PM
I’m getting mould in a small area of the internal wall in my living room. Upon investigating this, I noticed on top of my bay window is a gap and some rotten wood which could explain the water getting through and causing mould as it’s roughly the same area where there is a gap outside and the mould inside. Any ideas of how I should go about fixing this would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance

From a safe working platform, cut out rotten wood, treat area with recognised wood hardener, sika or similar, replace wood, make good and seal.

You can repair rotten wood by first removing the rotting from the original board or joists. You can then fill the surrounding area with a soft wood polyester filler or wood patch using a plastic putty knife. This material fills the area and cures to ensure strength and resilience.
