Electrical

Built-in oven with microwave function

Anonymous user 1 March 2024 - 3.01 PM

Hi, I am a student doing some research for a university project. I had a few questions about the following electrical appliance installation and was wondering if I could get some advice in terms of how long these could take. It is a house, located in Brighton near the waterfront. Assuming most electrical work is done and it's only to take the appliances out of the box, and remove packaging, do a quick check, and install as well as certify the appliances. I would appreciate some advice on the average installation time, please. (Note: this is only a project and I am not very knowledgeable about the process, if you think it should I should account for other things, please let me know or add it to the timings). - How long it would take to install a built-in oven with a microwave function? (Bosch CMG676BS6B built-in oven with microwave function) - How long it would take to install a Bosch Coffee Machine? (Bosch CTL636ES6 Coffee Machine) - How long it would take to install an American LG fridge freezer? (Install American style LG® Instaview fridge freezer LSR110) Edit: Thank you for all the answers so far, I did not expect so much help! I really do appreciate it.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Hems, updated answer- most of what's below still stands (as you are asking for averages) so with the updated information the averages would be the same, however, I am assuming what you want in actuality is the specific 'predicted' estimate for these items, rather than the average for said items, as averages are given below on my previous answer. If it is an estimate for said items, I'd charge half a day, and parking would be your responsibility to cover. Some people would take another view on this but we are not they, and each company has differing requirements. You can look up our rates if required, we are in Winchester. Certification for the install you describe would be a minor works certificate but is not legally required, although can be included with invoice upon completion at no extra cost Hope this sorts you out. Yours DMELECTRICAL Previous answer- this comes up a lot, and frustratingly many people base their answers on very limited assumptions, such as: they have installed mainly domestic simple single phase ovens, so the average time is based on this, when in reality, the world is deep, the world is high, and this is doubly so for the appliances you mention. So the following is, I feel, a better way to look at timescales, average or otherwise, and as I own my buisness this thinking reflects the charging required. For each appliance in and of itself, there are different methods of installation, single phase two, or three phase: this is one parameter. For each appliance there are different versions (integrated (you kindly mention this), or stand alone), an additional parameter, for each appliance there may be different regulations for supply, yet again more perimeters, voltage, frequency? etc. Does the item come with a plug? A flex? Etc. All this needs to be known before a correct answer can be given. For each appliance there are additionally different scopes required for an installation to be considered complete: simple things like unpacking the items, getting rid of rubbish, old items requiring moving or disposing of, all have an effect in the real world scenario of installation time. For each parameter a direct effect on installation requirements and therefore time for installation (as you have asked specifically: 'How long it would take to install' for each of your three items). Generally with simple direct, 'wiring in' alone with all cables already in place from the machine and terminations only, with all installation tools and equipment in place (crimps, ferrules etc) about 5 to 10 minutes to terminate. But this would not include fixing carcass in place, rubbish and so on. From the viewpoint of the whole installation of each item, so what I term - 'in, on and rubbish away' or a whole installation , an hour to a day would be possible depending on what else is required. Usually I install stand alone ovens in an hour, but I have at times worked on installations that require multiple visits to install equipment. Best if the exact specifications of installation requirements are provided for an academic request such as this, plans, loads, dimensions model numbers, timeframes, etc. None of this includes suitability of said items for their location with regard to load and safety requirements, as that is another realm of requirements. So although it sounds like a large window, to give an average from my experience , I'd say the range is an hour to a day (not longer) if you average 'most' appliances, this could be termed maybe at half a day for the average? As it's either 1hour, half day or full day from a charging perspective. Half a day average for all appliances of the general type you mention, but if you do the math, a chap who's fitted 100 regular beko stand alone cookers on a new build site might tell you 10 minutes because he is paid as an employee, but as an independent, with many more varied types of installation for 'cookers' it'd be closer to this answer at half a day, arga conversions put the overall average up too. Hope this helps. Have a good weekend. Yours DMELECTRICAL

Hi Taking into consideration that the electrical outlets have already been 1st and 2nd fixed, the combination oven would be a few minutes. It would take longer to get it out of the box than the installation time. The coffee machine would involve a cold water connection, at the very worst, 30 minutes. I have not installed one. The fridge on the other hand would take about an hour, but would need 2 people at some stage, assuming it is integrated. Electrically wise, all 3 would have a moulded plug, so , just lug them in

These are plug in items and require no electrical installation whatsoever. Just put it in its place, plug it in and switch it on.

Depends on the amperage, all the appliances up to and including 13Amps will usually come on a plug top. Those without will specify a switch fuse spur, 20 amp, or a 45 amp switch. If there is power already in the desired locations of where you want the appliances, then it should be a couple of minutes for each. If it has to be hard wired, or no power at the points you want, then that will take a good few hours?

Q1. Depends very much on what original wiring is present and its type of wiring, fusing and earthing arrangement. Also what work would need to be done (if any) to bring the installation up to a standard so the electrician can certifying that in fitting the oven it comforms to current building regulations. Q2&3 plug it in an existing socket outlet? Not long at all.

All your questions depends on if its a complete new wire for those appliances plus is the property a bungalow or a house. If properties a bungalow it's a much easier job as cabling running through roof space, if properties a house again depends is the house vacant. House will require floor boards lifted and is the electrician responsible for getting walls chased. No walls chased and if properties a bungalow and allowing there's spare ways in the consumer unit, average size bungalow I'd say all 3 appliances could be wired in few hrs.

They would all take around 30mins to install if the outlet is already in the right place. To install a new outlet you are looking around 30mins to 2hours depending on the difficulty

If the question is relating to installation after second fix has been completed, then this could be done by a non-skilled person and should take around 10 minutes for each appliance.

Oven/microwave depends on the requirement of supply if the supply is already Sufficient it would take around 20mins. Coffee machine again depending on supply if just plug in 5mins as doesn't say integrated. As for fridge depending again on supply and if it needs a water supply need more information for more accurate times as not enough for more accurate answer.

This is a questions that pretty hard to answer. Is the supply for the appliance there? Or does it need wiring? Is the space in the kitchen units for the appliance, you best bet would be to listen to the tool box talks for electricians podcast, that will give you a good idea of how to go about learning these things.

Impossible to say. It all depends on the condition of existing wiring (if there is any). The oven most likely would need its own circuit. A survey would be required i.e. what’s the access like? How far from the consumer unit? Does the consumer unit need upgrading? etc, etc, etc,….
