Dripping exhaust on bathroom fan

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 3.01 PM

I have just had an in-line Hibb Cyclone fan fitted on a new bathroom. The grill is on the shower wall and exits throw an airing cupboard to the fan about 90cm then through the wall into my stairs for 10cm before going straight up to the roof to exit for 1m. The problem I’m getting that after just a few minutes of being on it starts to drip from the exhaust. I have had the bathroom fitters and the electricians back and they initially thought it was condensation and running bk down the pipe and just need an over flow trap adding. After closer inspection they realised that the pipes after the fan towards the exit were not where it’s condensation. Its in the body of the fan just after it’s left the bathroom. They basically are now stumped and we are left with a lovely new bath/shower room that’s u usable. Please can some one help?

Condensation trap. Same as you have in the back of a fridge. An insert goes into the conduit in the lowest place before the fan which channels any water through a pipe into a tray below. ANy water collected will naturally evaporate. toolstation.com/extractor-fan-condensation-trap-with-overflow/p73185?utm_source=Rakuten&utm_medium=affiliates&utm_campaign=4639073185&utm_content=Redbrain&ranMID=46390&ranEAID=pfxNKSnglIM&ranSiteID=pfxNKSnglIM-WUpmyu.fpLtj_OSLKEJGPA

Any duct that carries hot/warm air/steam vertically will condensate along the run and run back down and drip wherever it can get out, water always finds a way …. The only way to minimise this is to only run the vent pipe horizontal and slightly leaning to the outside so any condensation will run towards outside ….

Where extraction ducts are used and pass through a cold space, they should be insulated to avoid issues of condensation build up.
