Squeaky Floorboards under laminate flooring.
Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 3.01 PM
I have some annoyingly squeaking floorboards under my laminate flooring. I am wondering if there is any way of fixing the squeak without having to lift up all the floor (large area) or leaving an unsightly repair?. Any advice would be appreciated.

The squeak is generally caused by a loose board riding up and down on a nail. The only real solution is lift the laminate, screw the board and re lay

Unfortunately there is no other way than nail/screw loose boards to joists.

You will not be able to fix the squeak without lifting the laminate flooring and screwing the floor boards below back down, depending on how well the laminate flooring is removed you may have to glue the boards which have been removed to the subfloor to stop them from moving or coming loose in the future

It could be a number of things, (1) if the plumber has just cut a bit out of the joist, and cannot nail your floorboards back properly. (2) it could just be they want screwing down, (3) if it’s a old building it could be settlement. Any way you look at it you will have to pull your floor up to get a the floorboards.

Unfortunately in this case you’d need up lift the laminate flooring in order to re secure your floor boards below, most likely cause would be a few have come loose from the old fixing causing a creak when moving around the old fixing
