Windows & Door fitting

Maximum opening width.

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.52 PM

Hi everyone.. I'm currently getting quotes for full house replacement windows and doors of a property I've just moved into.. Long story short lol. Had safestyle out (will not be going with them, hard sell and aggressiveness put me off) and he insisted that one of my windows is too big to have one or two top openings and it must have either 3 or a non opening section between the 2. Could I ask what is the maximum size the opening part of the window is allowed to be? Thank you.

Dear Donna Thank you very much for your enquiry. UPVC frames do comes with restrictions from manufacturers. If you can forward some details, we would be able to advise the best options possible. Warmest wishes Chris

Hi Donna, depending on the sizes this could be correct as you don't want the frame or glazing not to sit right because of the weight and length of the frames. If you'd like to send me some sizes i can then give you a more definitive answer Kindest Regards Harry

Hi Donna Chris isn’t totally wrong about what manufacturers guide lines are. And the guy from safe style could be right in what he said, it does depend on heights and widths and where the window is situated ie bedrooms. But you asked about what’s the maximum width of a top opener can be. Then the opening width must be no smaller than 450mm and no greater than 1000m. I’ve come across this and been advised by my manufacturer. Hope this helps. Regards Matt

Top opening casements if wider than 1400mm can cause you alot of problems in the future. This is because after some use of closing the window the casements tend to sagg in the middle with the pushing down of the handle. So the bigger the casement window the chance of it happening is higher.
