No felt under roof tiles
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.51 PM
I am in the midst of significantly extending my property. The existing roof on my house (1930's detached build) has no felt. This roof is going to be cut into and extended over the new rear and side extension. The new roof will obviously have new felt/batten etc. Should I definitively redo the old roof with felt too? the current roof with just tiles has lasted this long with no leaks/issues - just wondered is it worth spending the extra to redo the whole thing as my budget is quite tight.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Definitely worth doing the lot in one go ask working on the roof will only cause problems later and would be more cost affective doing it all at once

It is definitely worth redoing the roof and putting felt underneath will only have problems later on if you don't

I would say no. When your main roof gets to the stage it needs re-done you can Refelt etc when you strip existing tiles/slates. If it’s still okay and no issues, just leave it be. That’s what I would do unless I had plenty of spare cash with nothing else to spend it on.
All the best

Yes it would definitely be worth it and it will extend the life and you will not have to worry about it for long because the whole roof will be same.
