Water not heating when both hot water and heating are on

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.50 PM

We recently had an unvented cylinder installed as part of a loft conversion. In isolation both central heating and hot water work but if they’re on at the same time we don’t get any hot water. Any ideas? As part of the build tue plumbers switched the towel radiators to only heat when the heating was on - previously they were linked to the hot water. Not sure if changing this could have affected things?

I think your system has problem with the diverter valve .

It sounds like your system has been set up to give “hot water priority”. This is a very good way of improving energy efficiency when done correctly. I’ve included a link below to an article that explains how hot water priority works (a lot more eloquently than can). https://theintergasshop.co.uk/content/189-why-hot-water-priority-is-the-reason-s-and-y-plan-should-be-banned

The answer given is ok, however the system depends on if the controls are a S or Y plan. It could be are wiring issue or a pipe installation issue. The towel radiators could of been left on hot water circuit but putting them on the heating circuit is ok if that's what you wanted.

It is sometimes hard to diagnose on them systems. But sounds like a timer clock issue if you say they work independently, then the system in general is working ok. Have an electrician check it over
