Can Overhanging Tile Trim be Replaced?

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.49 PM

Hello, I just had my kitchen re-tiled. It looks to me as though the tiler did not match the tile trim to the depth of tiles. The trim overhangs the tiles and there is a lip. In one very prominent place under a spotlight, the trim even casts a shadow on the tiles. What is the solution please? Is it to re-tile all the areas with new, correctly-sized trim or can the old trim be pulled off and new trim put in its place? Thanks.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi. The tile trim is beded in behind the tile in the adhesive. Dependent on what addy was used and how we'll set it is would be the deciding factor on whether it will come out or not without damaging the tiles. Then if you do get it out, the problem would be trying to get new trim back in. Obviously I can't see it, and don't know what trim etc has been used, or how bad it looks. But as I say, if the trim is set in hard and you really can't live with it then it's a messy job with probable damage.

Yes, overhanging tile trim can be replaced. The process involves removing the old tile trim and replacing it with a new one that matches the depth of the tiles. This can be done without having to re-tile the entire area. However, if the trim is attached to the tiles with adhesive, removing it can be a delicate process to avoid damaging the tiles. It's recommended to hire a professional tiler to do this job to ensure that it is done properly and without causing any damage to the tiles.
