Hanging 6kg mirror on Victorian chimney breast

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.33 PM

Hi all. I’m going to hang a 6kg oval mirror (80cm high by 50cm wide) on my Victorian chimney breast. Wall feels solid. The hanging mechanism for the mirror is simply one screw at the top of the mirror (solid brass hole designed to house a screw). My question is, will one fairly heavy duty screw along with appropriate wall plug by sufficient to hold 6kg? I have a young daughter who walks under the mirror! Can anyone recommend a screw I could pick up from b and q that would be sufficient to do the job? Thanks in advance.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, there are many ways to fix it but without seeing the item it’s difficult to give precise fitting instructions. As above, use a suitable wall plug. Personally I would try to use a hook if practical; this would avoid any chance of it slipping off.

I would use a bear claw picture screw available from Amazon
