Should new plaster be sanded first, or mist coat and then sand down?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.45 PM

A month ago we plastered the entire house - next step is to paint. The overall finish of the plaster is very good - it's smooth, barring a few chips and imperfections. Is it better to apply the mist coat first and then sand down/correct, or should the new plaster be sanded first before the mist coat?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I would apply the mist coat first has this would help reveal any imperfections in the plaster

I would lightly rub down to just get all the surface dust off & ant splatters of plaster, followed by a diluted coat of paint so it soaks in rather than just sitting on surfaces, then once dry fill where necessary, then chosen colour.

You may need to lightly sand the surface if plastering is a good finish , use Sandpaper of around n 200-400 grit for a smooth finish.

Hi there, I would definitely apply a mist coat or 2 first then give a light sanding when all completely dry. And then you are ready for the final coat of white then you too coat of your preferred colour!

Hi, I would give it a very light sand down first. Then apply a coat of PVA water mix, then apply 2 mist coats.
