New ceiling - plaster fallen off

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.45 PM

We have recently had a number of ceiling upstairs plastered over in order to hide the previous artex. This was done with PVA and then skimmed. One ceiling has failed and the new plaster has come away from the old artex. Should we now be concerned about the other ceilings? There are no cracks or bowing showing in them. Is there a typical amount of time that the plaster would fall down post completion if it was going to happen? Thanks Edit - the previous artex was painted. Shouldnwe ask the plasterer to overboard over the new plaster or should it be taken down then overboarded? If the others aren't showing signs of problems, are we entitled to have the work done again for free or would the cost fall to us?

Leave the other 2 ceilings alone. Get him to overboard the ceiling and skim. Hopefully he will do it at a reduced price. As it isn't really his fault it came down. It happens sometimes. But you can never tell when or where it will

Firstly it should of been tested for asbestos before any work commences. If any of the Artex as come away with it it could be dangerous. Second do not overboard until a asbestos test is done due to screwing into the joists through plasterboard then the Artex. On some occasions if plaster comes away its due to too much moisture at once by rushing also a weak mix of PVA.

If the other ceilings haven’t failed by now likely they won’t and will be fine as the main reason for the failed plastering is moisture getting behind the Artex. Which isn’t the plasterers fault it is always a gamble going over Artex, plus the ceilings normally fail pretty much the same day so I would guess the other ceilings will be fine, should always be tested for asbestos then either removed or overboard for 100% guarantee.
