Wall top railings

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 3.00 PM

Hello, I have recently had a wall rebuilt and need some railings to go on top and a gate. I have found a couple of companies that make them. Are they easy enough to install? Or would I need someone to install them? And what trade would that be? A gardener? The gaps for the railings are 174cm wide - would I buy exactly this width or less? And the gap for the gate is 87cm. Thanks so much! Clare

Hi Clare railings usually have little square base plates on them with screw holes in each corner. I would measure the gap and then take 5mm off so they can be fitted easily. Have a go at fitting yourself it’s all pretty self explanatory just make sure it’s upright and level before you fix it. Good luck

Hi, these are easily to install depending of type and how they attach to the wall. You should contact the manufacture to get more details. But you should be able to do it yourself👍

It all depends how the railings are intended to be fitted. There are a few different options, the easiest is bolting them to the wall but you have to be careful that the bricks can withstand holding the railings, the other option would be to core drill a hole down a few layers of bricks and postcrete them in. In my opinion that's the safest option but will ultimately cost most more. Your best bet would be to speak to a fencing / metal fabrication company who specialise in that sort of thing. The job is easy with the right kit and experience, but would recommend a professional install them
