I am currently building a media wall in the living room. Unfortunately, there is a double socket on the side wall the exact distance where I want to put an upright for my timber frame. I dont mind whether it's moved horizontally or removed completely, I just dont want it there. So firstly, the actual socket is in the way. Second concern is that presumably the wires from that socket go straight up to the ceiling. This is the exact line I want to drill into the wall to fix my upright. What are my options here? Am I going to have to go into the wall the whole way up to remove the wire?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
Hi ajt512 , you are correct in thinking that the cable will indeed run either horizontal or vertical from the outlet as this is the wiring regulations
i would suggest calling an electrician, if this is not a option turn off your whole consumer unit ( to be safe ) and undo the outlet to determine what direction the cables go
doing any electrical work yourself is not advisable, but it would not hurt to look to establish what route the cables have taken

Hi, unfortunately this is correct, the cables typically come from above in a straight line. If you are lucky they may come from either side. If you can safely isolate the socket, then take it off and see what direction they come into the box. Otherwise I’d suggest getting an electrician in. Hope this helps.

I assume it’s not a stud wall
So therefore, there is not an easy option , the cables will have to come out of the wall.
Possibly floor boards lifted above to safely terminate the cable.
Either way you will need to have an electrician to do it correctly and sign it off.

Remove the socket and tape each separate wire separately and then plaster over hole from socket
