Bathroom Fitting

To fit a ventilation system in my bathroom

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.51 PM

Hi, My bathroom on the first floor currently has a window, which can be opened to ventilate the room during/after showering. However, in winter it's pretty cold outside and I would prefer not to open it. Also, even though I like to use the window to ventilate, the person showering often forgets to open it. This ventilation issue leads to mould in other rooms on the same floor and dripping in the attic. So I really like to fix this. I have been thinking about putting in some sort of ventilation system to help ventilate (or perhaps an extractor fan will just do the job), but not sure how to approach it. Please see a photo below, which gives an idea of what my bathroom looks like. https://ibb.co/FqdJrfR Ideas will be much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi . there are two solutions that I advise you to drill a hole in both walls, let's say 20/20 cm and after that to do the ventilation and put a shower fan cable from the fan to the one where you turn on the light in the bathroom and when it will turn on the light in the bathroom and the fan to work after that. And the second solution is to change the window to a new model that already has ventilation in it, and in order not to open the window, just open the window ventilation . Many thanks Have a good evening

Just install an extractor fan in your ceiling, you would need to install a vent in the external wall above the ceiling height you can then run a flexible ducting hose from the extractor in the ceiling through your ceiling joists and out the vent on the exteneral wall, or install an extractor fan directly into the bathroom external wall, all depends if you want to see a fan in your wall or out of sight in the ceiling. in accordance with building regulations every bathroom or utility room should be fitted with an extractor fan. Pretty easy to install an electrician should be able to carry out these works. Hope this helps. Have a look at these videos on YouTube to get an idea of what I mean. https://youtu.be/WvSE9aAmeGk https://youtu.be/M8L-fANbIu4

Not sure what type of property you have, but the best option would be an extractor right above the shower, into the loft and vented to the outside. You have another issue looking at the picture you provided, that pull cord off the ceiling should be a minimum of 600mm from the shower screen.
