Type and strength of wood to use to mount onto solid wall for wall unit install

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.51 PM

I need to install some wall storage units onto a solid wall, I would like to install them onto horizontal wooden batons as the wall is not level on either side of pipe work that is housed in vertical boxing on the dining room main wall. I would like to install the wood battens horizontal at the top and bottom side of where the wall unit fixings will be mounted, bottom horizontal wood batten will be exposed when looking at the underside of the wall unit. Which strength and type of wood should be used for this and how should the wood batten be installed (which fixings are best) onto the solid wall?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, The size and design of your storage shelving and the depth of the wall that you are fixing to will dictate your fixings options. Most basic shelving and storage can be held with either 45x18mm batten /45x45mm timber up to 45x100mm timber. fixings should 2 and a half the size of the timber you are fixing to so long as your wall has the depth required to receive the required fixing. An important point when installing fixings into you walls is to ensure that your fixing is away from any water pipes of live cables that may be in the wall. Good luck with your project. Timbers or mdf will be good enough. Make sure to use the appropriate wall plugs and screws
