Kitchen Fitting

Ventilation for renovating kitchen installed in 1999 apartment building

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.49 PM

We plan to renovate a 24 year old kitchen in a flat and add a guest cloakroom. We only have one existing outlet for ventilation in that area and cannot add any afaik. So can we use a recirculating extractor for the kitchen and vent the cloakroom through the outlet. Alternatively, can we use a Y junction positioned correctly together with a backdraft damper to vent both? Note, the kitchen has windows and the existing kitchen extractor is further that 5 metres from the outlet, which is inefficient anyway. My understanding is the renovation cannot be worse than existing. Is that correct? Or what can we do? Thank you.

Is there a gas hob being fitted or electric ? If its gas you cannot connect to a bathroom outlet if its electric its not advisable but again i would not either as unless both are pulling out you will have the smell of your bathroom and kitchen both pumping air in to the rooms. I suggest recirculating. Make sure you clean filters regularly. Most new filters can be cleaned in a dishwasher

Kitchens – In any room with a cooktop, new fans or rangehoods installed after 1 July 2019 must have a minimum diameter (including ducting) of 150mm or an exhaust capacity of at least 50 litres per second. Bathrooms – In any room with a shower or bath, new fans installed after 1 July 2019 must have a minimum diameter (including ducting) of 120mm or an exhaust capacity of at least 25 litres per second. You can mount the y-tube with the direction valve only if the existing tube corresponds to the norms in force.
