Is It Lime Plaster?

It’s probably lime based plaster which if it’s solid enough not crumbly you can grit the walls or pva and plaster over the top with no problems. Hope this helps

It maybe judging by the age of the house, horse hair and plaster which they used all the time in them days it used to make tye plaster bind to the wall, I'd be very surprised if its lime , but the best way is just havevit tested, if any problems please get intouch, take care and thanks

I would say yes it’s lime and not so much harder. But more time consuming

Hi. You do find with houses built around this time that lime plaster is used in both the ceilings and walls. It's hard to identify without actually chipping at the wall and if there are laths (thin lengths of timber) running across the wall that is usually a good way of telling as this is a building style of that period. You find it a lot in old Victorian houses. It can be re-plastered by applying mesh before Skimming to ensure the wall is solid but alternatively you could plasterboard over and re-skim. There is a good chance that it is lime based plaster, skimming on top of it won't be a problem as long as the person doing the job uses a good quality PVA glue to help the bond and avoid the suction from the lime based plaster.

Hi there pretty sure it won't be lime plaster if its grey in colour? Will not be a problem to re plaster? Will need to be blue gritted forst
