Knocking through Edwardian front gable to add a little window

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.32 PM

I currently live in a small 1 bed attic flat in an Edwardian house, it has a traditional gable on the front of the house. Currently got 1 roof window on the main roof and inside is plastered against the main roof. I’m wondering if it’s safe and even possible to knock through and add a little window in the gable to bring in a little more light. Some of the other houses in the street have them but we have quite a low ceiling so not sure if it will give enough headspace to look decent. Anyone done this before?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes it’s possible but may have to be obscured if looking over someone else’s property

It's possible to form window. In gable end But you will need planning permission to Add additional window. I hope this helps.

Best to contact your local council to see if you need permission firstly . Then if all okay you would need building regs also . Just because other houses already in your road have them it does not mean automatically you can do the same
