Insulation resistance & continuity tests

Hi, Can an experienced electrician explain the procedure involved in doing EICR tests on Direct OnLine starter and a Contactor attached to it please? Do I need to open the DOL or can I use a plug with stripped wires instead? It's a 3 phase 4 wire. Thanks James

Hi James, sorry this isn't an answer to your question but rather, another question, without knowledge of your level of competence I'd be reluctant to offer a solution as I would need to be sure that you are capable of three phase safe isolation (this is essential to safeguard against death), and if you are capable, as such you should be able to find this information on the forums for electricians not on a customer oriented website - once again sorry to sound like a snob but I have to assume you are a customer (this is mybuilder, and is not a trade to trade website) and this is not an area that its safe to enter into without the correct levels of experience (which you may have - maybe asking this on a more suitable forum for electricians would be more use?) Hope you get the answer you need one way or another.

I like the two answers I’ve read, I would however just add that a question like this is either a trap by a qualified professional or a complete doughnut, either way. don’t touch the installation and get a grown up professional to safely isolate and complete an EICR that will hold up in any forum.
