Why the primary immesion heater on my economy7 hot water cylinder cuts out?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.32 PM

The bottom immmersion heater for my hot water cylinder seems to cut out over night. I have tried resetting which worked for 6 months but recently it cut out every other night and now every night. I called a plumber who said it will need replacing without investigating and has quoted £240. Is this right..?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The circuit breaker has tripped Solution: switch it back on A faulty thermostat Solution: press the reset button. If it has sings of fried/burnt wires may be it needs to be replaced An damaged immersion element Solution: remove the heating element and for the new component Limescale buildup Solution: flush out the limescale from the element using a high pressure water stream Problems with the insulation Solution: a heating expert can inspect the heater’s elements, wiring, and which parts need servicing or replacement

The primary immersion heater on an Economy 7 hot water cylinder can cut out for several reasons, including: Tripped circuit breaker or blown fuse: If the circuit breaker or fuse for the immersion heater trips or blows, the heater will not work. Thermostat malfunction: The thermostat is responsible for controlling the temperature of the water in the cylinder. If it is faulty, the immersion heater will cut out. Overheating: If the immersion heater overheats, it may shut down as a safety precaution. This can be caused by a buildup of mineral deposits or debris on the heating element. Wiring issue: If the wiring for the immersion heater is damaged or loose, it may cause the heater to cut out. It is important to identify the cause of the problem and have it repaired by a qualified plumber to ensure safe and efficient operation of the hot water cylinder.

Hi, As with the other comments your best option is to get a professional plumber to investigate and resolve the issue. This will also be a perfect opportunity for the cylinder to be serviced and Limescale be removed as it will extend the life of the cylinder. Best of luck
