What to insulation or lining to use on loft rafters

My father has a 1930s unfelted tiled roof. Before there was the foil bubble wrap insulation taped across the rafter beams in loft. This has been removed as he was told it’s not good as it’s not breathable. Now in the loft there is a breeze and gets very cold in the winter. The roof is in good condition. Could you recommend a good breathable light weight membrane that could be used. Thank you

I would use insulation over the ceilings.
Draughts in the roof space are a good thing as this allows trapped moisture to escape/dry out
Just insulate to keep the heat in the rooms below and leave the roofspace as is so it can breathe

2 options are viable in this situation
1 - 50MM Celotex foil backed insulation and the a breathable membrane it always the roof to breath but stops drafts

Loft space is not supposed to be warm that's what roof vents are there for to give constant airflow, just make sure you have about 400mil of loft insulation going both ways to save heat escape
