Electric meter cupboard

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.45 PM

My electric meter is between main wall and chimney breast. I am in to minds what to do to hide it. Idea 1 is a cupboard around the meter only and idea 2 is a stud wall with access door for meter from main wall and chimney. My question is what would the average cost be idea1 and 2 and which would be the best way of covering up the meter. The meter is in my living room.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Cudboard would be loads cheaper and easier access to the meter

Firstly, an electric or gas meter should always be accessible giving a clear safe uninterrupted zone to the utility provider. There are many budget options available to deal with this sort of issue. I would recommend something that adds value to your life/ property, such as incorporating storage, shelving, TV unit and the like. Incorporating a stud wall may reduce the floor area unless this is not a concern, and may in-cure other finishes such as skirting, plastering, painting. Hope this helps regards Chris.

A cupboard would be cheaper, but it also depends if it blends in with the rest of the room, a stud wall and access hatch could be painted the same colour as the walls

I wouldn't stud the entire wall, half stud with a nice top on would look lovely and be a nice place for a family photo etc, and would be lot safer than a cupboard
