Should plastic water pipes underfloor boards be supported by pieces of wood?

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 3.00 PM

I've had gas central heating installed, I fell down a floor board which was not secured. I looked at the new plastic water piping, and noticed some were supported by small pieces of wood. Well I'm now concerned due to the fact, I've had radiator put on my new stud wall and I noticed the water pipe had dropped down, the plumber said "I have either pulled it down as if or the pipe as expanded due to the heat. If it's the heat my concerns with the supported pipes, is the piping being restricted and could this cause problems. Further more why haven't my floor boards been left secure, I could have damaged the pipe?

For heating pipes barrier pipe should be used when using plastic pipe. Also it should be supported and clipped ideally every 400 mm for 15mm pipe. Yes, timber can be used along with clips, but treated timber under floor and clipped at manufactures preferred distance. Also lagged. Reason for this is unlike copper piping, which will stay solid when heated, plastic pipe will sag when heated, which will cause strain on the fittings and effect the flow of the system.

Ha how many plumbers use clips for plastic under floorboards, the main reason it is used is for speed and to keep the price down, that means most plumbers and I include myself push it along under the floorboards like electricians do and don't clip, I'm not saying it's right but the main reason for clipping is noise and unless the plastic is trapped it doesn't make noise unlike copper rubbing on joists. Customers want to drive the price down and this is the result in afraid. My whole house is copper in clips but it's my time and I dint penny pinch
