Removal of Metal Gas Fireplace Flue Pipe

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 3.00 PM

There is a gas fireplace installed, I am not really pro or against it but the back of the fireplace has a metal flue ( Looks like Type A Vent ) which runs into the attic has is aimed at a ridge vent with the roofing felt cut around it. So i have no chimney nor does it penetrate the roof, however it bulges out the living room wall. I once had it pushed back and re plastered only to have it move around and bulge out again. I don't use the fireplace and in winter it can be a source of draft and am considering removing it. Removing the fireplace looks easy enough, and I could get a certified gas installer to cap it off. My question is how much work / mess would it be to remove the metal flue from behind the plasterboard wall and attic. and Fill it in and make it look like a normal plastered wall.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Removal of the flue is easy enough....the gas fire will have to be removed and capped off by a technician and signed off as safe. Also sounds like your plasterboard my be damaged so you will probably want to replace that so the bulge doesn't happen again.
