Plastering & Rendering

Will a professional plasterer be able to skim coat newly plastered walls/ceiling.

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 3.00 PM

Hello, Unfortunately my newly plastered room can't be painted as I planned and explained to the builders who did the job. There are too many imperfections, so sanding and filling isn't going to correct the problem/provide the finish I envisaged. For example, for some reason they did not plaster all the way to the skirting board in most areas; just found a crack in the ceiling (a heavily plastered section) and corners look terrible which I guess could be tidied up with sand paper. One area of the wall is just down right lumpy. Can these issues be resolved with a skim coat by a professional plasterer? Plaster is mostly dry and I have a 2 week window before carpets and furniture arrive!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes it can be resolved, the crack in the ceiling is down to movement & should be looked into ,its probably split where it joins the ceiling joist & should be screwed either side of the crack along the whole length to secure .there could be a possible problem plastering down on to the skirting now because applying another 2to3 mm of skim could leave you with no skirting edge that’ll need to be checked

Sounds like a bad job from start ,a competent plasterer would first pva the wall and re plaster to a good finish which should of been done originally
