Roof dripping since snow and ice

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 3.00 PM

Since we have had snow and ice on our roof we have noticed drips of water falling in the loft which doesn’t happen when we have had heavy rain

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Have a different between snow and rain the snow when freezing can get in smal holes and the ice move the plates in roofs in January we have -8 C for that reason you have a condense

It’s condensation. When snow falls/ice it stays on the roof and makes it freezing, and houses are warm, hot air rises and meets cold roof, then water forms. Increase insulation in loft to stop this and depending on age of roof, a new roof helps.

without looking its not possible to say whether your felt is failing or if its a condensation issue

When it rains hard-gravity directs the rain water quickly down the roof into guttering then gets drained rapidly (assuming guttering/downpipes are not blocked through periodic debris collecting from roof into guttering system) Where as snow/ice sits on roof slowly melting which allows the water time to find small gaps in roof slate or tiles and seap into attic- but if under felt is in good condition then this excess dripping water will flow down between felt and slates/tiles being drained into guttering assuming felt, battons, slates have been installed correctly
